IT and OT Security – the Yin and Yang of Industrial Digitization
While IT Security is widely considered a given in the context of industrial digitization by now, OT security has long been neglected. Only recently the industry has shifted their attention to the challenges companies face when it comes to their OT systems. Being not compatible with most IT security approaches, legacy systems are prone to malicious attacks, thus putting companies at a considerable risk in terms of security.
Traditionally IT and OT have been separate disciplines with different approaches to their respective challenges. In a connected world, this separation is no longer applicable: IT and OT frequently overlap and interact, which creates a multitude of new challenges in terms of security. To tackle the challenges of industrial digitization and reach an appropriate security level, the need for a holistic approach rises that covers both IT and OT equally.
